Poker Face

Poker Face

If only my eyes could show
the rapid beat of my heart.
Then you’d understand
the power of my mind
and the poker face I designed.
You could look into the glass
and see my unguarded past.
Yeah, if only you could see
the beat of my heart
You would find my sincerity
and learn that it’s you
that is my vulnerability.

I saw this painting from Andrew Salgado and “Poker Face” basically composed itself.

Explosive Nostalgia

Explosive Nostalgia

I saw you today
Running at the gym
Laughing at jokes about them
But when we caught eyes
I turned cold on a whim
My heart was tannerite
with the cause to ignite
An explosion of nostalgia
Where love surged
throughout my body
and shock waves
rolled down my face
Yeah, I saw you today
With my emotions on display
It’s how I know you’re with me
And your spirit is here to stay

Once a gym partner, always a gym partner. I miss you everyday, Monica. đź’•

Dust Settles, I won’t.

Dust Settles, I won’t.

Born to a world,
trapped in a cage.
with clipped wings,
and a passion to fly.
Dreaming of the wind,
Soaring at new heights,
The spirit of an eagle,
But the life of a lovebird

This particular poem was inspired by a past relationship.

He was “Reaching” and I was “Settling” although it didn’t feel that way at the time. He told me “if you weren’t with me, I could see you being anywhere, Paris, Montana, anywhere but Corning.”

I guess I was unaware of the potential and natural ambition inside me.
And it’s true, we learn the most about ourselves when we only have ourselves to spend time with. We learn, we grow, we make the impossible, possible, and we live again.
